Coding in its present form is laborious and does not always work the way it should. Having formulas that work without giving you the wrong answer and you spending countless extra time on trying to correct it when you are trying to close a tender.Īgain as for the record the price book, well as long as you have plenty of time to spare, I suggest you forget about it. Having a price book that is easy to create and use without having to spend hours and hours of typing long codes or scrolling up and down pages to find the right items to link.ģ. Having formulas in lines so you can add up different sections of your estimate that you may need from time to time to produce a sanity check for that trade.Ģ. When it comes to formulas and codes for use in pricing it might be a good suggestion to be able to allow more flexibility with coding and sort out the copying process with does not perform correctly and has cause lots of issue to date. Some of these I will repeat again below.ġ. What would happen if there were two separate programs? Perhaps each one launched from a master menu item! Perhaps that may be the problem, have a measuring program and a pricing program working together. I worked on CATS for some years (John Hollands Estimating program) and it was always fast, although it didn’t have a measuring program attached to it. Whatever the reason, it sure needs looking at. You would have thought that this might have been an ‘in site’ to the problem with Cubit Estimating, or perhaps they are just trying to run too many functions in the same program. I was working on my Global version of Buildsoft recently and was amazed how this appears to have speeded up exponentially in recent times. I have asked myself why are some competitors more efficient at loading drawings and still operating the pricing function whilst other are not? Perhaps the answer lays with how the program gets built in the first place. I have trialed some other programs and none of these appear to be lacking in speed, so I can only assume that Buildsoft’s system of managing data is not powerful enough to manage the demand of the program. Ram sits at 32 GB and an I7 processor and mine is still exceptionally slow, so I don’t know how others are managing with their computers. I have one of the fastest computers on the market with an onboard 1Tb SSD and also a 2Tb SSD card. Well, Cubit 10 has been released with some improvements! Whether it remains to be seen it’s for better or for worse, ‘many users may ask’. The program seems to be slowing down not speeding up and any work to the pricebook seems non-existent. Here we are again! It’s nearly Christmas and with the end of the year fast approaching, it’s time to reflect on how Buildsoft have been performing on improvements to their software, namely Cubit.
